Vevy

Vevy is a commune in the French department of Jura in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Vevy is located on 509 m above sea level. M., about 8 km east of the town of Lons -le- Saunier (air line). The scattered village extends in the Jura, in the south of the plateau Caledonia (first Jura plateau ), between the erosion valley of the Creux de Revigny in the west and the hills of the Côte de l' Today in the East.

The area of ​​9.62 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The entire area is occupied by the level of the plateau Caledonia, the average at 520 m above sea level. History

The Chapel of Vevy is first mentioned in documents dating from 1133. Vevy formed in the Middle Ages its own little rule was the site of a hospital of St. John, which was destroyed in 1566. 1639 the seat of power by troops of Duke Bernhard of Saxe- Weimar was sacked. Together with the Franche -Comté Vevy came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.
