Vézelois

Vézelois ( formerly German alluvial forest ) is a town in the French department of Territoire de Belfort in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Vézelois is located on 366 m above the sea, about five kilometers southeast of the town of Belfort ( a straight line ). The former village street lines extending in the lowlands of the Burgundian Gate, on the plateau between the Grands Bois in the east and the Bosmont in the west, at the Praille.

The area of ​​9.43 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the weakly in relief landscape in the Burgundian Gate ( trouée de Belfort ). The central part of the area occupied by the wide expanse of Vézelois, which is determined by the Praille to the southeast to Bourbeuse and thus drained to Allaine. The plateau is average at 370 m and is mostly covered with arable and meadow land, but also shows some of larger forest areas. In the East has Vézelois share of the extensive grove of Grands Bois. To the west, the municipality's area extends into the Bois de la Brosse on the hill Bosmont, on the 412 m, the highest elevation of Vézelois is achieved. The northern boundary runs along the creek Neuf Fontaines. Here, as in the valley of the Praille there are several ponds that were created for fish farming.

Neighboring communities of Vézelois are Pérouse and Chevremont in the north, Fontenelle and Novillard in the east, the south and Meroux Danjoutin in the West.

History

Is first mentioned Vézelois in 1185 under the Latinized name Vesiliaco. First, the control of the Lords of Montbéliard standing, the village mid-14th century came under the suzerainty of the Habsburg dynasty. It was conferred upon the rule Rosenfels ( Rosemont ). By Swedish troops Vézelois 1632 severely affected during the Thirty Years War affected. Together with the Sundgau came the village with the 1648 Peace of Westphalia to the French crown.

Since 1793 Vézelois belonged to the Department of Haut -Rhin, however, remained in 1871 as part of the Territoire de Belfort as opposed to the rest of Alsace in France. From 1883 to 1886, the Fort of Vézelois (also Ordener Fort ) was built, which formed part of the fastening ring to Belfort. Vézelois 1913 connected to the French railroad network, as the narrow -gauge railway from Belfort has been offering Réchésy. As a result of competition from a bus line operating in 1938 but was reinstated. Since 1998 Vézelois is part of the municipal association Communauté d' Agglomà Belfortaine.

Attractions

The church of Saint - Thiébaud was built 1853-1877 in neo-gothic style. In the old station of Vézelois (1913 built ) is now home to the mairie ( community center ). The total of 20 hectares comprehensive Fort Ordener, which served as an ammunition depot until 1994, is now a meeting place for various festivities.

Population

With 936 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Vézelois one of the small communities of the department of Territoire de Belfort. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century (1906 625 persons were still counted ), a significant population increase has been recorded since the early 1960s. Since then, the population has doubled.

Economy and infrastructure

Vézelois was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Many workers are therefore commuters who do their work in urban Belfort and Montbéliard.

Further road links exist with Chevremont, Novillard and Meroux. By bus Vézelois is connected to the town of Belfort.
