Via the Danube is a company of the Austrian Federal Ministry for Transport, Innovation and Technology ( bmvit ). It was founded to preserve and develop the Danube waterway in 2005.

The via the Danube, together with the Central Hydrographic Office (HZB, now Division VII / 3 BMLFUW ) and the hydrographic organizational units of the state governments the Hydrographic Service of Austria.

History

On 1 January 2005 the establishment of the Danube via the Federal Ministry for Transport, Innovation and Technology took place. via the Danube was formed by the merger of the Austrian Danube operation AG, the Austrian Danube -Technik GmbH, the Danube via mbH for Telematics and Danube navigation and organization of the privatized Wasserstraßendirektion.

Via the Danube is a waterway operator to perform tasks in the area of federal waterways and shipping. Together with national and international partners, innovative projects to increase the use of the waterway to be implemented. The Waterways Act regulates the Danube to be provided by via tasks and services. It constitutes the legal basis for all activities and projects of the company

Infrastructure Management

Via the Danube provides a powerful and reliable waterway infrastructure. This includes the care and maintenance of the banks, the production of Fairway parameters and the ongoing provision of hydrographic and hydrological data.

Employees via the Danube take on behalf of DHK ( Danube flood - competition) performs important agendas in the area of flood protection along the Danube in Vienna and Lower Austria. Furthermore, it is responsible via the Danube for the rehabilitation of flood protection systems at the March and the lower Thaya. In the stages of construction at the March and Thaya lower the high water services is passed through via the Danube.

DoRIS ( Danube River Information Services) operates via the Danube an information and management system for the navigation on the Danube in Austria.
