VIA Envy

VIA Vinyl Audio is a collective term of VIA Technologies for audio solutions company. These solutions consist partly of high-quality dedicated sound chip of the Envy24 series of sound cards as well as from audio codecs on the AC97 and HDA standard for integration on motherboards.

History

Originally the sound solutions the Californian company IC Ensemble were developed in the late 1990s. VIA has taken over this company in 2000 for about 11 million U.S. dollars. Since then, the development under the name VIA Vinyl Audio continues.

Dedicated sound chips

Based on the developments of IC Ensemble VIA Technologies offers several sound chips under the name Envy24 or tremor. These chips differ mainly in the maximum sampling rate and sample resolution.

Functions

Audio codecs

AC97 and HDA codecs are used on modern motherboards as a substitute for dedicated sound chips. However, they are inferior in their skills and the quality of a dedicated solution.
