Via Ostiensis

The Via Ostiensis (now Via Ostiense ) was an ancient Roman road.

Geographical Location

The Via Ostiensis ran from Rome to the port of Ostia Antica and was 30 km long. The road began at the Forum Boarium, left the area of ​​the Servian walls through the Porta Trigemina and led on the eastern bank of the Tiber River along the city wall. In the south of the city, they united with a road that led from the Porta Raudusculana south.

After the construction of the Aurelian Wall, the Via Ostiensis left Rome only at the Porta Ostiensis, now Porta San Paolo.

History

Via Ostiensis was built in the 3rd century BC as well as the port city of Ostia won this road, especially in the 2nd century AD in importance. In late antiquity, the street lost its importance due to new roads.

Today's Via Ostiense runs about the same as the ancient precursor.
