Viatcheslav Ekimov

Vyacheslav Vladimirovich Ekimov (Russian Вячеслав Владимирович Екимов; born February 4, 1966 in Vyborg ) is a former Russian cyclist.

Ekimov began in earnest at the age of twelve years with the bike training and was founded in 1990 as professional cyclists. He was in the following race teams under contract: Novemail (1993 ), WordPerfect ( cycling team ) ( 1994), Novell (1995), Rabobank (1996 ), Amica Chips (1999), U.S. Postal (1997/ 1998, 2000-2004) and Discovery Channel ( 2005/ 06).

At Olympic Games Ekimov won three gold medals in Seoul in 1988 as a train driver in the team pursuit in Sydney in 2000 as a street rider in the time trial (before Jan Ullrich and Lance Armstrong ) and in Athens in 2004, where he runner-up behind Tyler Hamilton was in the ITT, as well as 38 years oldest participant of the race was. In August 2012, Hamilton was the Olympic gold medal stripped and thus Ekimov moved up to number one after.

Ekimov took 15 times in the Tour de France and finished part every time the race. Ekimov won two Tour de France stages and was instrumental in the Tour overall victories of Lance Armstrong. After the tour, 2006, he announced his retirement as an active sportsman and in 2007 was working as a sports director at Team Discovery Channel, which was dissolved at the end of the year.

2001 Ekimov received an award as "Russian cyclist of the century".

Ekimov replaced on September 8, 2012 Hans -Michael Holczer as general manager of Katusha Management SA, among others, the Katusha team operates.
