Vibia Sabina

Vibia Sabina (* 86, † 136 ) was the wife of the Roman Emperor Hadrian.

Her parents were Lucius Vibius Sabinus and the older Matidia whose mother Ulpia Marciana was the sister of the Emperor Trajan. His wife Plotina arranged in the year 100, a marriage between Vibia Sabina and Hadrian, who also belonged to the family of Trajan. The marriage was as unhappy and remained childless (a source reported that Sabina should have aborted a child). According to the Historia Augusta, the praetorian prefect Septicius Clarus and the writer Suetonius to have come closer to her than seemly.

Vibia Sabina accompanied her husband on his extensive travels throughout the Roman Empire. Your visit to the Colossi of Memnon in 130 is occupied by several poems of Hofpoetin Iulia Balbilla. 128 she received the honorary title of Augusta. She died before her husband and was consecrated as diva Sabina ( under the official gods applicable).
