Vic Wilson (racing driver)

Victor " Vic" Wilson ( born April 14, 1931 in Kingston -upon -Hull, † January 14, 2001 in Gerrards Cross ) was a British racing driver.

Vic Wilson was born in England, but spent the first twenty years of his life in South Africa. In the late 1950s, it began his career and drove for now touring car races in Rhodesia and South Africa. Its first vehicles were machine guns and a Lotus XI.

Wilson came to Europe and got to know Dick Gibson, who was also a racing driver. The two together began to race. In 1960 this friendship Wilson even in Formula 1 for the team of his friend drove Wilson 1960 Italian Grand Prix at Monza. Wilson went with a Cooper T43 - Climax of the 16th and last place on the grid and soon fell after a defect at the oil pump.

Wilson ran the motor racing never really seriously, although it certainly talent was said. Between 1961 and 1963 he stayed away from the racetracks three years. His cousin Bernhard White brought him back to motor sport. White entertained in the 1960s, a team that brought in different racing series vehicles at the start. So Wilson was driving a Ferrari 250LM in the sports car world championship.

In 1966 he was assigned as a regular driver of the team under the name Chamaco Collect in Formula 1 vehicles of BRM wanted to go to the start. Wilson went on the training for the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa- Francorchamps, but was replaced just before the race by Bob Bondurant.

Wilson died in 2001 in a car accident.
