The Vicarage Road (also called short The Vic ) is a football stadium in the English town of Watford. It offers 19,920 spectators and is the home stadium and ownership of the football club Watford FC. The rugby union club Saracens lease of the plant from 1997 to 2013 for home games of his pro team. Early 1990s was located at the Vicarage Road and FC Wealdstone from the Isthmian League.

History

1922 was the Watford FC to its original stadium at Cassio Road and was moved to the Vicarage Road. The first game was played against FC Millwall on 30 August of that year. Even from the early days comes the meantime several times extended Grandstand ( Main Stand ). The first floodlights were installed in 1953. The attendance record was achieved in 1969 with 34 099 spectators in a game against Manchester United.

The Tribune Rous Stand, which is named Sir Stanley Rous after the former FIFA President, is from the year 1986., The construction was financed in part by a loan from Elton John. The Vicarage Road Stand was established in 1993, two years later, the Rookery stand followed from the 1997/98 season and played the first team in North London -based Saracens in Watford, because their own stadium about four times smaller.

In 2003, the Watford FC was in financial difficulties and had to sell the stadium. The fans organized a fundraiser called Let's Buy Back The Vic ( "Let us buy back The Vic "). Among other things, Elton John donated the entire proceeds of a concert that took place here. 2005, the club was able to buy back the stadium for 7.6 million pounds.
