Victor Anfuso

Victor L' Episcopo Anfuso ( born March 10, 1905 in Gagliano Castelferrato, Sicily, † December 28, 1966 in New York City ) was an American lawyer and politician. He represented 1951-1953 and 1955-1963 the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Victor L' Episcopo Anfuso was born about nine years before the outbreak of World War I in Gagliano Castelferrato. The Anfuso family emigrated in 1914 to the United States and settled in Brooklyn. There he attended primary school ( elementary school ) and the Commercial High School. He followed in the years 1926 and 1927, its preparation courses at Columbia University. After he graduated in 1927 from St. Lawrence University Law School (now Brooklyn Law School). His admission to the bar, he received the following year and then began practicing in New York City. During the Second World War he served between 1943 and 1945 in the Office of Strategic Services in the Mediterranean. Between 1944 and 1946 he served as Special Assistant to the Commissioner of Immigration. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party.

In the congressional elections of 1950 Anfuso was in the eighth election district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Joseph L. Pfeifer on January 4, 1951. Since he gave up for reelection in 1952, he retired after January 3, 1953 from the Congress.

In February 1954 he was appointed magistrate (city magistrate ) in Brooklyn - a position which he held until his resignation in July 1954.

In the congressional elections of 1954 he was re-elected in the eighth electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives, where he became the successor of Louis B. Heller on January 4, 1955. He was re-elected three times in a row. Since he gave up for reelection in 1962, he retired after January 3, 1963 out of the Congress.

Anfuso in 1962 was elected Judge of the New York Supreme Court. He died on December 28, 1966 in New York City and was buried in the St. John's Cemetery in Middle Village.
