Victor Ashe

Victor Ashe ( born January 1, 1945 in Knoxville, Tennessee) is an American politician ( Republican) and diplomat. He was, until September 29, 2009 the United States ambassador in Poland.

Ashe studied history at Yale University. 1967 he received his Bachelor of Arts. Later he studied law at the College of Law at the University of Tennessee in 1974 and made its conclusion. Following Ashe became a lawyer.

In 1968, Ashe was elected at the age of 23 years in the House of Representatives from Tennessee. In 1975 he was elected to the Senate from Tennessee and was among this the next nine years on. November 1987 Ashe was elected mayor of Knoxville. In his 16-year tenure as mayor, the longest term of office, each wielded a mayor of Knoxville, covers inter alia the twinned with the Polish town of Chelm. In 1995 he was elected president of the U.S. Conference of Mayors and also had the President of the Tennessee Municipal League held. From 2001 to 2004 he served on the Board of Directors of the State Mortgage Bank Fannie Mae.

Ashe was proposed on April 8, 2004 by President George W. Bush as the successor to Christopher R. Hill as ambassador to the Republic of Poland and confirmed by the U.S. Senate on May 21. On June 23, 2004, he was in Washington, D.C. sworn. Ashe is married and has a son and a daughter.
