Victor Leemans

Victor Leemans ( born July 29, 1901 in Stekene, Belgium, † March 3, 1971 in Leuven ) was a Representative of the Flemish movement of the 1930s and a member of the fascist Verdinaso organization. After the Second World War, he became a member of the Flemish Christian Democrats and was from 1965 to 1966 President of the European Parliament.

Leemans completed his studies in social science with a doctorate from the École des Hautes Etudes Sociales in Paris and then taught at the Catholic University of Leuven. During the Second World War, he collaborated with the Germans in occupied Belgium and was Secretary General of the Belgian Ministry of Economic Affairs. After the war he was therefore charged but acquitted in 1947. In 1949 he was appointed Senator Province of Antwerp and 1958 Member of the European Parliament, which he was president from 1965 to 1966.
