Victoria (Gallic Empire)

Victoria (also Vitruvia ) was Empress of the Gallic Empire by 270 /71. She was the mother of Victorinus, who dominated the Gallic Empire Special 269-271.

Victoria is mentioned in Aurelius Victor's Liber de Caesaribus and in the compilation of the Thirty Tyrants in the Historia Augusta unreliable. About her youth nothing is known, but it is likely from a rich and respected Gallic family have originated. Victoria retained after the murder of her son early 271 in Cologne, the power in his hand. By she bought the support of the troops, secured the succession of her favorites Tetricus I, who had previously held office as governor in Aquitaine. The emperor Domitian meanwhile raised could not prevail.

The Historia Augusta claims that Victoria had made their first (probably fictitious) grandson Victorinus junior emperor, but this had been murdered soon afterwards. In addition, they should have the title Mater Castrorum and Augusta worn and marked its own coins. None of this information has been verified by the research so far. It is also unclear died when and what circumstances Victoria.
