Vidal Blanc

The white wine grape variety Vidal Blanc is a new breed of French breeder Jean Louis Vidal. It is a hybrid of Ugni Blanc and Rayon d' Or ( Seibel = Vine 4986 ); Thus it is about a certain kind Rayon d'Or a hybrid vine. The variety originated in the 1930s. The primary objective of originating from the Charente Vidal was the new breed of suitable vines for the production of Cognac.

Because of their hardiness, the grape variety is cultivated particularly in Canada and the eastern United States. Compared to St. John or the Regent Vidal Blanc is somewhat less susceptible to downy mildew; but he is not as robust as for example, Seyval Blanc and requires a lot of maintenance work in the vineyard. How many interspecific varieties (this is another way of expressing the hybrid vine ) also tends the Vidal Blanc to magnesium deficiency symptoms.

The wine is fruity and quite acidity with a slight grapefruit note and pronounced cassis ( blackcurrant tone). Therefore, it is possible with Vidal Blanc and the production of sparkling wine. A particular specialty is the production of ice wine in Canada. Because the acidity of Vidal Blanc is ideal for wines with residual sugar.
