Vidal Sassoon

Vidal Sassoon CBE ( born January 17, 1928 in London, † 9, 2012 in Los Angeles, California ) was a British hairdresser and entrepreneur. In the 1960s he was best known for its development of the " geometric style" and revival of Bob.

Career

Born into a poor family in London's East End, Sassoon began working as a " shampoo boy" already as a 14- year-old in London. First, rather unwillingly, because he had to earn money for his family: In Cohen's he stirred in the back room to shampoo. Soon, however, he took pleasure in changing the hair of the ladies. During the 1950s and 1960s, Sassoon became one of the most sought after hairdressers in London. The acquaintance with the applicable as the inventor of the miniskirt fashion designer Mary Quant opened him the clientele of models, actresses and high society. Later he opened a number of hair salons in the United Kingdom and the United States under the name Vidal Sassoon and marketed successfully named after him hair care line.

In his youth, Sassoon, who came from an old Sephardic family belonged to the 43 Group, a militant anti-fascist organization that was involved after the Second World War against the movement of Oswald Mosley, and took on the Israeli side in the First Arab-Israeli War ( 1948) in part. In later years he was active as a founder of several foundations and the Vidal Sassoon International Center for the Study of Antisemitism at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (1982).

In 2009, Sassoon was appointed Commander of the British Empire. He last lived in California and was suffering from leukemia.
