Video editing

When video editing sequences from video source material are strung together by copying to a destination disc. The result is a dramatically -designed content and broadcast tape or video. One case is different:

Linear cutting

As a magnetic recording ( VTR ) - - When linear editing, the video signals from a source to be copied to a target. It always appeared before the introduction of digital formats on a generation loss.

At first this was just assemble editing possible while the individual sections could be copied only as a pearl necklace in succession, and in turn, the picture and sound only together. In later years, in the Insert Editing individual images and audio clips are specifically cut into an existing section into it. Here, the originally existing section but was always overwritten.

Non-linear section

In the non- linear editing, the signals are first stored on hard disks. Analog data is digitized accordingly. Individual segments can be joined together Subsequently, also the picture and sound separately. This is in contrast to linear editing possible to insert video signals into an existing sequence, without overwriting anything - as before in the classic movie section when a film strip was glued on an interface. By digitizing also the generation of loss is avoided by the multiple copying.

In order to reduce the amount of required hardware and the processing times, a distinction is made between online and off-line editing:

• In the " online editing " the material is digitized in the highest possible quality and then in the computer directly to the master - the broadcast- band, possibly new copies are made for the distribution of the - cut.
• In the " offline editing " is digitized with reduced quality, what it often, only made possible especially for movie projects to work on the entire project at once. To receive a broadcast quality master, the average data of the project in a list ( " edit decision list " ) are stored, which is then automatically processed in -line editing process later to offline editing " rebuild " on the basis of the uncompressed data.

The digitization of the material means an undesirable time overhead in the current television coverage. Lately, there will therefore be in video cameras also attached hard disk recorder, with which one can process the recorded video without copy right on the NLE system. For safety can also be also recorded on tape.
