Viernau

Viernau is a municipality in the district Schmalkalden- Meiningen in Frankish dominated the south of Thuringia. The community is home to the administrative community Haselgrund which belong to six more communities.

Geography

The municipality is situated on the southern slope of the Thuringian Forest.

History

For the first time the municipality in 1274 was mentioned.

Viernau 1629-1711 was affected by witch hunts: Nine women and a man came in witch trials. Two defendants were burned: 1657, host Hans furrow was sentenced to death at the stake. From the trials of his wife and two daughters, the output is unknown.

The coat of arms was approved on 28 April 1993.

The coat of arms was designed by the heraldists Diemar Frank and Frank Young.

Economy

In Viernau is a 4.5 hectare bedeckendes solar power plant. This " solar park " is not in the possession of the community.

Culture and sights

Characteristic of the center at the Evangelical Church of St. John are half-timbered houses and Heritage unbalanced impact.

Historical monuments

In June 1989, the members of two 1943 during forced labor who died young Italians donated a memorial stone in the cemetery, on which they brought with thanks to two local families over the long-term care of the graves of their loved ones to express. This had worked as a military internees in the sawmill Menz. Even prisoners of war from Poland and France ( 50 people ), and women and men from the Soviet Union had to do forced labor: in the tool factory Richard Henkel, the sawmill Georg Ullmer and various wood workshops.

Regular events

The four Auer fees Carnival takes place every year. At this occasion is chosen a " triumvirate " that consists of Prince, Princess and court marshal. On Carnival Monday, the same procedure takes place with young people from grade 8. Here also is not a " court " formed. Every second year the Notehobler from Weil am Rhein come as a guest. 2010 saw the 57th Four Auer Carnival, like every year before topped with two parades. The first is on Sunday and the second on Carnival Monday. The battle cry has changed in the course of time: Was it originally: " Alibaba Gag Gag ", one calls today only " Gag Helau ".
