Vietnamese Famine of 1945

The Japanese occupation, which served as a means to 1945 the local Vichy administration, forced 1941-44 rice supplies to the Japanese mainland and neglected civilian infrastructure against the military logistics. The North had since the late 19th century place of rapid population growth and depended on deliveries of the South for decades. From 1944, it came to local food shortages.

In the spring of 1945, the shortage after a drought in the north and the flooding of 230,000 acres of land in the south expanded dramatically. After a brief recovery in early summer was also severely damaged the second rice crop by more flooding August to October.
