Vietnamese Standard Code for Information Interchange

VISCII (Vietnamese Standard Code for Information Interchange ) is an 8 -bit character encoding, and is described in RFC 1456. It covers the spelling of the Vietnamese language.

Since this orthography total of 134 characters used except ASCII characters, it is not possible a simple extension of the ASCII character set to 8-bit. VISCII solves this problem by the six rarest control characters are replaced by the six rarest Vietnamese characters in the ASCII range. Although the language itself can be encoded with this method, there is no room for further rate or currency symbols.

Today, the character set is replaced by UTF -8.
