Vietnamese studies

The academic discipline and professional Vietnamistik deal with the research and teaching of the language and culture of the Vietnamese in the historical development. The subject Vietnamistik is available in Germany only at the Asia - Africa - Institute of the University of Hamburg. The first program was established in 1982. Previously was responsible Vũ Duy Tú as an editor for the language and culture of Vietnam and then from 1984 to 1999 as a professor. The 1970 Berlin offered at Humboldt University Vietnamistik degree program was completed four years after the " turning point" and, together with Indonesistik and the Southeast Asian Studies Southeast Asian Studies for the degree program. 1998, the Berlin Vietnamistik professorship has been deleted. Since 2002 Jörg Thomas Engelbert has held the chair at the University of Hamburg.
