Vievis

Vievis (Polish: Jewie, German, 18th century: Wewien ) is a city and the center of the same name Country Office of the Rajongemeinde Elektrėnai in the southeast of Lithuania, located in a wooded area on the same lake Vievis. It has about 5,100 inhabitants and is now due to the favorable location on the highway and the railway line between Vilnius and Kaunas as a suburb of Vilnius and is characterized by brisk investment and construction activities. Striking is the Orthodox Church on the eastern outskirts.

The first known mention of the village dates from 1539. Town charter was granted in 1950.

The local high school maintains since 1991 a student exchange with the Stephan Ludwig Jacobi -Realschule in Kalletal - Hohenhausen.
