The volcano Vífilsfell located in southwest Iceland.
Geography
The Vífilsfell is about 25 km from the capital of Reykjavík to the south, not far from the motel Litla Kaffistófan on the ring road. The volcano is located in the municipality of Kópavogsbær, on the municipal boundary to Ölfus and the Hellisheiði.
Volcanism
The mountain is a Palagonitkegel of glacial and 655 m high. He belongs to the mountain massif of the Bláfjöll, the most popular ski resort of the inhabitants of Reykjavík, and at the same time the volcano system of Brennisteinsfjöll.
Name
The name comes from Vifill, one of the followers of the Ingólfur Arnarson, who was the first ( official ) settlers in Iceland.
