Vigy
Vigy is a commune with 1512 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district of Metz- Campagne and is capital of the canton Vigy.
Geography
The village is located about 18 km north-east of Metz at an altitude 213-324 m above sea level, the average height is 300 m. The municipality covers 17.07 km ².
History
The town was first mentioned as Vigiacum in Merovingian and 1648 awarded the Peace of Westphalia, France. Between 1365 and 1648 Vigy part of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
During the war years from 1915 to 1918 and from 1940 to 1944 it received the German name " Wigingen ".
