Viktor Ekbom

Career

Ekbom began his career at Skövde IK in the J20 Elit, a junior hockey league in Sweden. In the season 2005/ 06 he was first employed by Skövde IK in Division 1, the third highest Swedish Hockey League.

In the 2008 /09 season he played with the Linköpings HC for the first time in the Elitserien, the highest Swedish Hockey League. Ekbom was selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 2009 in the sixth round to 181 instead of the Pittsburgh Penguins. Between 2007 and 2010, he also played for IK Oskarshamn in the second highest Swedish professional league, the HockeyAllsvenskan. At the end of the season 2010/11 he attended an amateur try-out for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in the AHL, the farm team of the National Hockey League franchises Pittsburgh Penguins. Ekbom remained scoreless in his three games there.

The Pittsburgh Penguins waived on May 31, 2011, its in the NHL Entry Draft in 2009 acquired rights to Ekbom, which would have enabled him to participate in the NHL Entry Draft in 2011. Instead, Ekbom signed a two year contract with the Finnish SM- liiga club Tappara, in which, however, he only played in the season 2011 /12.

Ekbom in 2012 was engaged as a substitute for the returning to Sweden Jens Olsson from EHC Red Bull Munich for one year.

Internationally

With the Swedish U20 national team Ekbom won the silver medal at the Ice Hockey World Championship U20 Juniors 2009.
