Viktor Schwanneke

Viktor Schwanneke ( born February 8, 1880 in Hedwigsburg, community Kissenbrück, Wolfenbüttel district, † June 7, 1931 in Berlin) was a German actor.

Life and work

Schwanneke began his career as a bank clerk in Hanover and joined shortly after the turn of the century to acting. First, at the Union Theatre, a summer stage, engaged in Hanover, he came in the fall of 1904 for his first engagement to Rudolstadt. This was followed by theater commitments to Frankfurt an der Oder and Stettin.

In 1908 he went to Munich to take up a position with the local court theater. There he made in the aftermath career as a comedian first; his best known roles include the theater director Striese in The Rape of the Sabine Women, the Knights Beichenwang in As You Like It and the Schummrich in the tender relatives.

1916 brought him the director Maximilian Sladek for a guest performance in Berlin. Here, he succeeded initially in the comedy The flea in the tank house. When the revolutionary disturbances recorded in late 1918 and Munich, Schwanneke was brought in as interim director of the Bavarian State Theatre (State Opera and State Theatre ) to Munich. In 1920 he settled permanently settled in Berlin and initially worked as an actor and director at the ' Little Theatre ' in Charlottenburg. One of his greatest late successes came shortly before his death under Max Reinhardt's directorship in The Difficult, a comedy by Hugo von Hofmannsthal.
