Vila Nova Futebol Clube

The Vila Nova Futebol Clube, usually short Vila Nova called, is a football club based in Goiânia, of the approximately 1.2 million inhabitants, capital of the Brazilian state of Goiás. With 15 state championships Goiás is one of the well Tigrão (Portuguese: Big Tiger) called Club, one of the leading clubs of the state. The club was founded in 1943, in the 1970s and 1980s, a total of seven years nationally top-notch and played for the Brazilian soccer championship.

History

The club was founded in 1943 as Vila Nova Futebol Clube, but three years later in Operário and renamed in 1949 to Araguaia. In 1950, the club became the Fênix Futebol Clube, until he finally again in 1955 returned to the name Vila Nova FC.

1961 Vila Nova won the first state championship of Goiás. The Vila Nova player Gibrair was doing scorer with ten goals. 1977, the club was first nationally top-notch and played for the Brazilian championship. In the overall standings, the club was doing 59 under 62 participants.

In Goiás, the club dominated sustained at that time and won the four Campeonatos Goiános 1977-1980 in series. Until 1985 the Tigers to five other Brazilian Championships participated. In 1979 reached number 21 among 94 participants was about the greatest success.

1996 Vila Nova undefeated champion of the third-highest domestic league, the Série C. was the following year, the club promoted as second division fourth.

Reported in 1999 that the Brazilian Football Federation Vila Nova for the Copa Conmebol in which the association was however off already in the first round by Centro Sportivo Alagoano from Northeast Brazil. In that time the club was at the state level in the short term second-rate, but rose again in 2000 and won as a consequence the state championships in 2001 and 2005.

Stadium

Estádio Onésio Brasileiro Alvarenga

Their home ground is the Estádio Vila Nova Onésio Brasileiro Alvarenga, which is only briefly mentioned in the rule OBA. The multi-purpose stadium in the city center has a capacity for 8,000 spectators. It is named after Onésio Brasileiro Alvarenga, a former player and official who significantly contributed to the professionalization of the club.

Estádio Serra Dourada

The Estádio do Governo do Estado de Goiás, usually called Serra Dourada, is the largest stadium of Goiás and belongs to the state government. It was built until 1975, according to a plan of the later awarded the Pritzker Prize architect Paulo Mendes da Rocha. Originally, the stadium took around 80,000 spectators, but modernization, increased comfort and safety have shrunk the current capacity to 50,000.

Vila Nova uses the Serra Dourada ( " Golden Mountains " ) whenever the expected spectator interest justifies it. The local rivals Goiás EC and Atlético Goianiense use the stadium.

The stadium is in the pre-selection for the World Cup 2014.
