Vilaflor, Santa Cruz de Tenerife

Vilaflor is a community on the Canary island of Tenerife in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Location

Vilaflor is the highest town in the whole island ( 1,400 meters high) and has an area of ​​56.26 square kilometers and 1804 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013). The town is located on the National Road 821 in the southern part of the island and is about 25 kilometers from the Reina Sofia Airport.

Apart from mostly by traveling tourism on the way to the Teide National Park and the so-called lunar landscape Paisaje Lunar live the inhabitants from the filling of the two mineral springs Pinalito and Fuente Alta and the sale of handmade crafts ( carvings and embroidery ). Even the biscuits manufactured here from almonds and honey are known throughout the island.

  • The chapel Mirador San Roque. In its vicinity, the ecological theme park Museo Guanche created.
  • Vilaflor is the birthplace of the only previous Canary Holy El Hermano Pedro de Betancur (1626-1667), who was canonized on July 31, 2002 by Pope John Paul II. Since then, a great week long festival is held annually in Vilaflor.
