Vilcún

Vilcún is a commune in southern Chile, and is located about 45 km east of Temuco in the Región de la Araucanía. Vilcún has 22,491 inhabitants ( 2002). The name means wall lizard in the language of the Mapuche.

History

Vilcún was officially founded on 18 October 1926.

Tourism

The city is located west of the volcano Llaima and the National Park Conguillío. There are also the Refugio Llaima and a small ski area located.
