Viliam Schrojf

Viliam Schrojf ( born August 2, 1931 in Prague, † September 1, 2007 in Bratislava ) was a Czechoslovak football goalkeeper. He played from 1955 to 1965 for ŠK Slovan Bratislava.

During his twelve-year international career Schrojf played 39 matches for Czechoslovakia.

Despite two momentous blunder in the final of the football World Cup in Chile in 1962, when Czechoslovakia defeated Brazil 1:3, Schrojf was named best goalkeeper of the tournament.

Schrojf debuted in the national team in 1953 as a reserve goalkeeper at a 1:5 home defeat in Prague against the then all-powerful with Ferenc Puskás, Sándor Kocsis and Hungary.

The next two years he was not reappointed, then the jersey but secured with the number 1 and kept the position until 1965, when Czechoslovakia failed to qualify for the FIFA World Cup 1966 in England.

Schrojf survived the first Czechoslovak goalkeeper over 100 first division matches without conceding a goal, which earned him membership in the club ligových brankářů.
