Villa del Parque

Villa del Parque is a district in the west of the Argentine capital, Buenos Aires. He has nearly 60,000 inhabitants (as of 2001) on an area of 3.6 km ². Parque Villa belongs to the Comuna C11.

History

The name of the district means " village in the Park" and refers to a 100 -acre park ( Parque del Oeste), which was first applied in the area.

During the presidency of Julio Argentino Roca, an initiative was launched to improve the training of farmers in order to Argentine products sell better on the world market. For this purpose, the construction of a model farm and an agricultural school in 1901 decided. These were inaugurated in 1903. At the time it was in the area about 50 blocks and was called the settlement " Ciudad Feliz " ( Happy Town ). Later, it was the place (formerly Parque del Oeste), then called Villa del Parque due to its proximity to the Parque Agronomico. On November 8, 1908 Villa del Parque has been the official suburb of Buenos Aires.

The center of Parque Villa is now formed from the train station, which was inaugurated in 1907, the Plaza Aristóbulo del Valle and Calle Cuenca.

Among the best known personalities in the district include the writer Julio Cortázar and the musician Mariano Mores and Horacio Salgán.
