Villa Dolores

Villa Dolores is a town in central Argentina. It is located in the west of the province of Córdoba, in the department of San Javier and has, together with its suburbs 28,009 inhabitants (2001, INDEC ).

Location

Villa Dolores is located in the Valle de traslasierra, one extending in a north-south direction valley in the Sierras de Córdoba, located between the Sierra Grande and the Sierra de Pocho. The surrounding countryside is by Monte, a bush, covered. Villa Dolores has a semi-arid, temperate climate with warm, relatively humid summers and very mild, almost non- precipitation winters.

History / Politics

2003 Presidential Candidate Adolfo Rodríguez Saa made ​​during the election campaign the suggestion that the Argentine capital of Buenos Aires to Villa Dolores to move Villa María or Río Cuarto. As Rodríguez Saa lost the election, the project was never implemented.

Tourism

In the countryside of Villa Dolores, there are several touristy places. The most famous is Merlo, who is however already in the province of San Luis. Other tourist centers of the region are San Javier ( starting point for the ascent of Cerro Champaquí ) and the more northerly locations Nono and Mina Clavero. One attraction is the artificial lake Ingeniero Medina Allende, also known as Dique la Viña.
