The Villa Leopold is a villa in Villefranche -sur- Mer on the French Côte d' Azur.

History

The villa was built in 1902 on behalf of the Belgian King Leopold II as a gift for his wife.

In the 1950s, the estate was purchased by Giovanni Agnelli, who later sold it to Edmond Safra. After his death the property passed to his wife Lily Safra. The Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov wanted to buy the villa in 2008 by Lily Safra, but never paid the full purchase price. Currently expresses Roman Abramovich interested in this property.

Buildings and facilities

The building is built in Belle Epoque style and wraps around 2,700 m² including gazebos and outbuildings. On the property there is a swimming pool, an avenue of cypresses, olive groves and an eight -acre park, and a helipad. The villa was in 1948 filming location for some scenes of the ballet film The Red Shoes. The building has been classified by the French authorities as a monument historique. She is now one of the most expensive villas in the world, and its value is estimated at about 500 million U.S. dollars.
