Villajoyosa

Villajoyosa or in Valencian La Villajoyosa (also often referred to as " La Vila " hereinafter) is a city on the Spanish Costa Blanca. It is geographically located between Benidorm and Alicante.

Cityscape

Villajoyosa has a relatively well-preserved town center, historic. Famous are the colorful painted houses, which are reflected as a city portrait on almost all postcards. Villajoyosa has a large sandy beach, a market hall, which is open every day during the week and a port which is driven both by fishing boats as well as private yachts and smaller pleasure boats.

Festivals

Every year the end of July is celebrated in Villajoyosa the festival Moros y Cristianos. As in many Spanish cities of the Reconquest of the expulsion of the Moors by the Christians is thereby intended. The highlight of the celebrations is a naval battle in front of the beach.

Economy

Villajoyosa does not have a lot of industry, main industry is tourism. Villajoyosa is also known for the Valor chocolate factory with attached chocolate museum, which celebrated its 125th anniversary in 2006. On this occasion, the Asturian royal couple came to visit. The city has set up a small museum because of this visit.

Transport links

The Carretera ( highway ) N -332 was till a few years ago directly through the town, which has led to major traffic problems. Meanwhile there is a ring road that leads directly to Benidorm. There is a highway entrance onto the A7 (E 15). The narrow-gauge railway Alicante - Denia is performed in the center on a viaduct. Immediately next to it is cheap to get to the train station.
