Villanelle

The Villa Ella ( peasant girl ) or villanelle is an Italian rural folk melody in the 16th century, often called the Villa Ella alla Napolitana. It is a strophic song with folk text and three part set. Dissemination she found also to France, Germany and England, and was among others integrated by Orlando di Lasso and Luca Marenzio in their music. An example of an English Villa Ella is the poem Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night by Dylan Thomas.
