Villars-Bramard

Villars- Bramard until the merger was to Valbroye on July 1, 2011, a municipality in the district Broye Vully the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

Geography

Villars- Bramard is located on 734 m above sea level. M., 12 km south-southwest of the district main town Payerne ( straight line ). The farming village stretches along the upper eastern flank of the Broye, in the eastern canton of Vaud Mittelland.

The area of ​​3.2 km ² large former municipal area includes a portion of the hill country between the Broyetal and the Glânetal. The largest part of the area is occupied by looking to the northwest slopes of Villars- Bramard where there is also the headwaters of the creek Trémeule. To the east of the municipality of ground covered on the broad ridge between the middle and the Broyetal Glane and reached the Bois de Bossens with 804 m above sea level. M. the highest point of Villars- Bramard. In this forest also arises from the right side of the creek Broye which opens at Marnand. The eastern part of the municipality encompassed the vast forest area Forêt de Farzin. To the municipality Villars- Bramard included some individual farms. Neighboring communities of Villars- Bramard were Dompierre, Seigneux, Cerniaz and Villarzel in the Canton of Vaud and Romont in the canton of Fribourg.

Population

With 116 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2010) Villars- Bramard was one of the smallest municipalities in the canton of Vaud. Of the residents, 96.6 % are French-speaking, German-speaking 1.7% and 0.9 % portugiesischsprachig (as of 2000). The population of Villars- Bramard amounted in 1900 to 172 inhabitants. After the population had decreased to 1980 due to strong migration by approximately 50 % to 88 persons, a slight increase in population was observed again since then.

Economy

Villars- Bramard was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. Even today, the crop and livestock farming have an important role in the economic structure of the population. Some other jobs are in the local retail industry and the services available.

Traffic

Villars- Bramard is off the major thoroughfares on a road from Marnand to Romont. By Postbus course, which runs from Payerne to Romont, Villars- Bramard is connected to the public transport network.

History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1155 under the name of Villa balmal. Later, the names Bremar Villar (1180 ) published, Villabramar ( 1184 ) and Villars Bramar ( 1394). The place name is composed from the Late Latin word villare ( hamlet, farm ) and the Germanic personal name Ballomar, Balmar or Bramar.

Since the Middle Ages belonged to the castle Villars- Bramard Bailiwick Villarzel, which was under the supremacy of the Bishop of Lausanne. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, the village came under the administration of the Bailiwick Moudon. After the collapse of the ancien régime Villars- Bramard belonged from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic to the canton of Geneva, who came up then with the enactment of the Act of Mediation in the canton of Vaud. 1798 was assigned to the District Payerne. Villars- Bramard does not have its own church, it belongs to the parish of Dompierre.
