Villars -le- Comte is a municipality in the district Broye Vully the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

Geography

Villars -le- Comte, situated 765 m above sea level. Level, 16 km southwest of the district town Payerne ( straight line ). Population

With 154 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Villars -le- Comte is one of the smallest municipalities in the canton of Vaud. Of the 96.7 % inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 0.8 % and 0.8 % Italian-speaking (as of 2000). The population of Villars -le- Comte in 1860 amounted to 239 inhabitants, 1900 to 226 inhabitants. History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1147 under the name Vilario Comitis. Later, the names Villare comitis ( 1168 ) published, Villari Comite ( 1182 ) and Vilar le Conte in the 13th century. The name, translated village of Count, goes back to a former castle on the hill above Villars -le- Comte.

Villars -le- Comte always was under the rule Lucens, which belonged to the bishops of Lausanne. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, the village came under the administration of the bailiwick Moudon. After the collapse of the ancien régime Villars -le- Comte belonged from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic to the canton of Geneva, who came up then with the enactment of the Act of Mediation in the canton of Vaud. 1798 was assigned to the District Moudon.

Attractions

Today's Reformed Church in 1822 built on the site of a medieval chapel. In some local stately farmhouses dating from the 17th to 19th centuries have been preserved.
