Villars -Sainte -Croix is a municipality in the district of Ouest lausannois the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

Geography

Villars -Sainte -Croix is located on 509 m above sea level. M., 7.5 km northwest of the capital of the canton Lausanne ( straight line ). The village is located on the plateau on the southern edge of Gros de Vaud in the canton of Vaud Mittelland, between the valleys of Venoge in the west and concern in the East, a scenic location about 170 m above the lake level of Lake Geneva.

With 652 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Villars -Sainte -Croix is one of the smaller municipalities in the canton of Vaud. Of the 88.0% inhabitants are French-speaking, 5.2 % and 4.2 % Italian- German-speaking (as of 2000).

Since 1960 (113 inhabitants), the population grew within 40 years very quickly to sixfold. Today Villars -Sainte -Croix is part of the agglomeration of Lausanne.

Economy

History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1227 under the name of Sainte- Croix. The 1230 mentioned church and in 1272 called Hospice of St. John were destroyed after the Reformation. It was not until 1543 appeared the name Villaret. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, Villars -Sainte -Croix came under the administration of the Bailiwick of Lausanne.
