Villars -sous -Yens is a municipality in the district of Morges in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

Geography

Villars -sous -Yens is at 481 m above sea level. M., 5 km west of the district capital Morges ( straight line ). The village is located on a knoll east of the valley of Boiron in Vaud Mittelland, a scenic location about 100 m above the lake level of Lake Geneva.

The area of ​​3.1 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the hinterland of Morges. The central part of the area occupies the wide valley of the river Boiron de Morges. Population

With 552 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Villars -sous -Yens one of the smaller municipalities in the canton of Vaud. Of the 92.7 % inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 3.2 % and 0.9 % in English (as of 2000). The population of Villars -sous -Yens amounted in 1900 to 318 inhabitants. Economy

Villars -sous -Yens was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. Traffic

History

The municipal area of Villars -sous -Yens was settled very early, which is the discovery of Roman coins. The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1349 under the name Villar subtus yen, derived from the Late Latin word villare ( hamlet ). With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, Villars -sous -Yens came under the administration of the bailiwick of Morges. In the 18th century the village was owned by the family Tavel. After the collapse of the ancien régime Villars -sous -Yens belonged from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic to the canton of Geneva, who came up then with the enactment of the Act of Mediation in the canton of Vaud. 1798 was assigned to the district of Morges.

Attractions

The parish church of Villars -sous -Yens was already mentioned in 1177 and was under the Canons of the Great Saint Bernard. 1796, the church was extended by a rectangular hall. In the center are some typical farmhouses dating from the 18th and 19th centuries have been preserved.
