Villars-Tiercelin

Villars- Tiercelin was a municipality in the district of Gros- de -Vaud in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland. July 1, 2011 Villars- Tiercelin merged with several other municipalities to the new community Jorat Menthue.

Geography

Villars- Tiercelin is located on 813 m above sea level. M., 6 km east-southeast of Echallens and 13 km north- northeast of the canton capital Lausanne ( straight line ). The farming village extends on the Northern Slope of the heights of the Jorat, east of the Valley of Mentue, in the Vaud Mittelland.

The area of ​​5.0 km ² large former municipal area includes a portion of the higher Vaud Mittelland. The western border ran along the slightly sunk into the upper reaches of the molasse Mentue. To the east of the municipality floor extends over the slopes of Villars- Tiercelin up on the ridge, which separates the catchment area of ​​Mentue from that of the Broye. Population

With 408 inhabitants ( 31 December 2010) Villars- Tiercelin was one of the small communities of the Canton of Vaud. Of the 93.6% inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 3.5 % and 0.9 % in English (as of 2000). The population of Villars- Tiercelin amounted in 1900 to 248 inhabitants. After the population had decreased to 1970 to 152 people, a significant population increase was recorded with a doubling of the population within 30 years.

Economy

Villars- Tiercelin was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. Even today, agriculture, animal husbandry and forestry have some significance in the occupational structure of the population. More jobs are in small local manufacturing and services available. In recent decades, the village has developed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in Echallens and in the Lausanne area.

Traffic

Villars- Tiercelin is located off of larger thoroughfares, but has good connections with the neighboring villages. By Postbus course, which runs from Echallens to Thierrens, Villars- Tiercelin is connected to the public transport network. Another bus will connect with Froideville.

History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1225 under the name Vilar and Vilar Tiecelin Tiezelin. 1668 appeared the name Villar Thiercelin. Since the Middle Ages was under Villars- Tiercelin the Lausanne cathedral chapter. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, the village came under the administration of Kastlanei Dommartin, which formed an exclave of the Bailiwick of Lausanne. Attractions

Since 1225 a church in Villars- Tiercelin is mentioned. The present building was built in 1795 in line with the Church of Dommartin. In the center some stately farmhouses dating from the 18th and 19th centuries have been preserved.
