Villepreux
Villepreux is a town with 9888 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in France in the Yvelines department in the Île- de -France region.
Geography
The city Villepreux is twelve kilometers from Versailles. The municipal area is predominantly rural. About 15% of the municipal area are inhabited.
In the heart Villepreux is a historic village, built around the castle of the 18th century, built by the family Francini. In the south, towards the SNCF train station is Villepreux a settlement of houses of the 1970s, often refurbished in recent years.
History
The origin of Villepreux lags far behind. The name itself is a statement, according to Gallo- Roman villa and comes from pirorum, the name of a large estate in today's municipal area. According to other explanations, the name comes from villa Porcorum, so a pig farm. Other sources speak of villapeureur, that is a leper colony. The first certain mention of Villepreux dates from the year 856
