Villersexel

Villersexel is a commune in Haute -Saône and capital of the canton of the same name.

Geography

The place is located in a slightly hilly landscape above the river Ognon, at the mouth of his left tributary Scey, about 46 km north-east of Besançon, 24 km southeast of Vesoul and 30 km west of Montbéliard.

History

Villersexel likely his name - have received in the 7th century by overhauling Saxon Thuringians - equal to other neighboring communities as Uzelle.

The Battle of Villers Exel on January 9, 1871 was an episode of the German - Prussian War of 1870 /, 1871.

Since 2000 Villersexel member and the host of the 33- villages municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays de Villers Exel ( CCPV ).

Traffic

Villersexel is a little off the main road traffic and is only accessible via roads department (D 9 of Vesoul and Montbeliard, D 486 and D 50 of Lure of Baume- les -Dames ). The nearest motorway is the A 36 / E 60, which can be reached via the D 50 of the 20 km distant point Baume- les -Dames.

The Hochgewindigkeitsbahnstrecke opened in 2011, LGV Rhin -Rhône leads 1.5 kilometers south-west past the place. The railway line Montbozon -Lure, had a railway station. It was last used for the material of construction of the LGV traffic, the connection path from the base Travaux for LGV was rebuilt in 2012 to bypass the town.
