Villette (2005)

Villette (Lavaux ) until 1 July 2011, a municipality in the district of Lavaux -Oron in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland. They merged with Cully, Epesses, Grandvaux and Riex for new political community Bourg -en -Lavaux.

Geography

Villette (Lavaux ) lies at 397 m above sea level. M., 7 km east-southeast of the canton capital Lausanne ( straight line ). The wine village extends on the north shore of Lake Geneva, at the foot of the vineyards of Lavaux.

The area of ​​1.4 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the Lavaux on the north shore of Lake Geneva (approx. 1100 m lakeshore line). The communal land extending from the lakeshore as a narrow strip north the vineyards up on the terrace of Jordillon up on the adjacent plateau southeast of the Jorat in the headwaters of the creek Bouteiller. Here, on the watershed between the basins of the Rhone and the Rhine, is 734 m above sea level. M. reached the highest point of Villette (Lavaux ). Population

With 581 inhabitants ( 31 December 2010) Villette (Lavaux ) was one of the small communities of the Canton of Vaud. Of the 88.5 % inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 4.6 % and 2.0 % in English (as of 2000). The population of Villette (Lavaux ) amounted in 1900 to 340 inhabitants. She then remained fairly stable until 1960 (362 inhabitants). Since then, a significant population increase was recorded, especially during the 1990s. Since the Rebhang is being protected from Villette, new buildings arise mainly in the upper part of municipality above the highway.

Economy

Villette (Lavaux ) was up in the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. Even today, the wine has the best sun-drenched slopes of the Lavaux ( about 45 ha) an important place in the economic structure of the population. In Villette (Lavaux ) quality wines of the appellation Villette are mainly produced. On the plateaus dominate agriculture and animal husbandry. More jobs are available in the local small businesses and especially in the service sector. The trade of Villette (Lavaux ) is aligned next to the fast moving consumer goods also on tourism. There are several wine shops. Through the construction of numerous single-family homes in the past few decades, the village has developed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work mainly in Lausanne and in the Vevey-Montreux region.

Traffic

Villette (Lavaux ) is good transport links. It lies on the main road 9, which runs from Lausanne along the lake shore via Vevey and Montreux from Wallis. The nearest motorway connections to the A9 opened in 1974 (Lausanne -Sion ), which crosses the former municipality, located in Belmont (in the west, around 5 km) and at Chexbres (in the east, around 8 km away). On April 2, 1861, the Lausanne -Villeneuve section of the railway line from Lausanne was taken to the Valais with a railway station in Villette (Lavaux ) in operation.

History

Since the 11th century Villette (Lavaux ) was under the Bishop of Lausanne. Its already mentioned to 1134 the church was the parish church of the entire present-day Cercle de Cully. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, Villette (Lavaux ) came under the administration of the Bailiwick of Lausanne. After the collapse of the ancien régime, the village belonged from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic to the canton of Geneva, who came up then with the enactment of the Act of Mediation in the canton of Vaud. 1798 was assigned to the district of Lavaux.

Villette (Lavaux ) formed until 1824 a larger municipality. Then Grandvaux, Cully, Riex Epesses, and Forel ( Lavaux) were independent, and Villette (Lavaux ) received the boundaries that were in effect until the merger of the municipality of Bourg-en -Lavaux on 1 July 2011. Since 1864, the municipality of Villette was Aran in the hamlet. A project for the merger of the five municipalities Cully, Epesses, Riex, Grandvaux and Villette (Lavaux ) failed in a vote on 27 February 2005 on the resistance of the population of Grandvaux. The project will therefore provisionally not pursued.

Attractions

The Protestant parish church Saint- Saturnin in Villette dates in its present form from the 13th and 14th centuries. In the chancel wall paintings from the 14th and 15th centuries have been preserved. At the entrance stands the so-called Landvogthaus, a late Gothic building with a hipped roof, built in the 16th century. Aran also the location of a typical wine village has preserved.
