The Vilnia in Vilnius
The Vilnia (also Vilnelė, white soot. Вільня / Vilnia poln: Wilenka ) springs near the highest point in Lithuania, near the border with Belarus, it flows a few kilometers along. Some of them has a considerable gradient: 40 m difference in altitude over 10 km, which in parts whitewater paddling like is possible. In Vilnius it separates the district Užupis of the old town, flows along the Kalnų Park ( a) s and opens below the Gediminasburg into the Neris river.
The passage of Vilnia was formerly divided into two parts at the mouth, it formed so also the moat for the castle of Vilnius.
