Vilnius Metro

The metro project in Vilnius ( Lithuanian Vilniaus metropolitenas ) is a planned metro system in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius. Three lines are currently being proposed. The goal is the relief of congestion, which have increased significantly in the 1990s and 2000s. In 2001, Mayor Artūras Zuokas scored requested international support for a feasibility study for the proposed system. The proposal was approved as part of the master plan of the city of Vilnius by the municipal council in 2002. Systra was selected by the City as a partner. Negotiations are under way, like building instead of a subway, a tram.
