Vilnius TV Tower

The Vilnius TV Tower (Lithuanian: Televizijos Bokstas ) is a 326.47 meter high transmission tower for the spread of FM and TV programs in Vilnius, the Lithuanian capital. The TV Tower Vilnius has 165 meters in height an open to the public observation deck and is located about 3 km west of the city center. Construction of the reinforced concrete tower was in 1974, the opening took place on 30 December 1980. At Christmas the tower in recent years has been decorated with over 25,000 bulbs as a " Christmas tree ".

During the secession of the Baltic republics of the Soviet Union the Vilnius TV tower was the scene of bloody clashes. On January 13, 1991 ( Vilnius Bloody Sunday ), Soviet tanks rolled one to Vilnius and were next to the Parliament also occupy the TV tower. Several civilians formed a human chain around the tower, were run over by the tanks. In their honor, a memorial was erected at the foot of the tower. Their graves are in the cemetery Antakalnis.
