Vilniaus Universiteto biblioteka

The library of the University of Vilnius ( Vilniaus Universiteto lit. biblioteka, VUB ) is the oldest academic library in Lithuania. It was founded in 1570 by Jesuits and is thus nine years older than the University of Vilnius. The library now has about 5.4 million items to 166 running kilometers of shelves. 28,420 registered readers are served by 195 employees. The library is visited by over 10,000 tourists.

History

At the request of the Vilna Archbishop Valerian Protasewicz (1505-1579) came to Vilna in 1569 Jesuits and founded with the financial support of the Archdiocese on July 17, 1570 a Jesuit college with an attached library.

Facilities

Information Center for Humanities

The Information Centre for Humanities ( Humanistikos informacijos centras ( HIC) ) and the reading room for Lituanistik were refurbished and opened on September 7, 2007. The HIC has 32 ​​jobs, 27 of which are equipped with computers. These are located in four reading rooms: Silver room for magazines, modern literature ( library ); Oranges reading room, a room for group work; Nußlesesaal the IT laboratory; and the Green Room - a reading room for periodicity.

Center for Science Communication
