The railway line Vilshofen ( Niederb ) Ortenbourg, also Wolfachtalbahn, is a branchline in Bavaria. It was opened on 16 January 1908 setting the passenger was on September 30, 1962.

History

The original plan was 1861 a connection Simbach - Pocking - Ortenbourg - Vilshofen before, but it was decided for today's " Rottalbahn " Pocking Prince of cell Passau, which in 1879 took up their service. In the year 1824/25 was a main road (now B8) built along the Danube to Passau and thus refuted the old main road from Vilshofen on Ortenbourg to Passau.

Also in 1861, the original route of the Danube -Passau Vilshofen took right to their operation. Thus, the Protestant places castle was almost isolated. As yet 1898 Aidenbachstraße - Vilshofen was opened then, we were afraid to have any more rail link. The application of 1897 on setting up a narrow-gauge rail link was not shared, and the request for grant to build a private railway company was not granted. Thus, the population turned in September 1899 the Prince Regent Luitpold. The State Government signaled in early 1900 that the track was recorded in the bill for the next local orbital period.

With revenue from the tax on malt beer and which were collected for ten years, the land was bought and on August 10, 1904 we also got the building permit for the local train along the Wolfach. Already in September 1904 began the project in November 1906, the construction of the line. The construction progressed smoothly and on 8 January 1908, the first tests have been undertaken and successfully completed. On January 16, 1908 this route was passed with a large celebration and opened to the public.

Since the Second World War Behelfspersonenwagen from this war and only partially modern rail buses were used, the passenger fell sharply and was hired despite protests and petitions of the population on September 30, 1962. Thus ended a part of the express and baggage shipment. This meant that the Ortenbourg station was closed on June 1, 1975. The freight Neustift - Blindham was set at 31 October 1994. Also, the Raiffeisen central warehouse now moved out into the street and thus a partial dismantling of the track was to be seen.

There are still the Lower Bavaria Schotterwerke and the asphalt plant the company Berger construction by the German railway operated. Occasionally operate here also special tours of the Passau railway enthusiasts.

Since the traffic with gravel trains on the rise was the route has been renovated in 2013. The route is operated three times by DB Schenker next regularly from other railway undertakings (RU ) 2013 weekly. So there are through trains to Switzerland.

The three- kilometer bike path Maierhof - Söldenau - places Castle on the ground level of the embankment was opened in November 2002.
