Vilyuy Dam

The Wiljui Reservoir ( Russian Вилюйское водохранилище, Wiljuiskoje Wodochranilischtsche, other spellings are: Viljuj, Vilyuy or Vilyuyskoye etc. ) is a large reservoir on the Lena Creek Wiljui in Siberia (Russia). The Tschona also empties into the Wiljui reservoir.

For the memory contents of the reservoir you will find the information 35,900 and 40,400 million cubic meters (of which volume: 22,400 mcm ), for the water surface in 1200, 2170, or 2360 km ². With the respective largest values, calculates an average water depth of 17 meters; the largest water depth is 60 meters.

The dam ( ⊙ 63.032471112.471304 ) was built in the 1960s near the settlement Chernyshevsky; the hydroelectric plant was completed in 1976. The shut-off is a dam of earth and rockfill material. In the Jakutskenergo operated by water power plant is produced with eight turbines with a total capacity of 680 megawatts of electric power.

Due to the irregular seasonal water flow of the Wiljui electricity generation varied in such a way that multiple users of the electrical energy of the power plant, the diamond mines in Mirny and connected operations temporarily had to reduce production.
