Vimmerby

Vimmerby [ ̌vimərby: ] is a village (Swedish tätort ) in the southern Swedish province of Kalmar County, the historical province of Småland. Vimmerby is the capital of the municipality of the same name.

History

In the Middle Ages Vimmerby was repeatedly burned and devastated. In 1192 the city was put for the third time by the Danes in fire and 1454 devastated Christian I of Denmark the city. At the beginning of the 15th century had Vimmerby city rights, Gustav Vasa in 1532 but but knew again. This should be achieved that traders move into the neighboring squid. 1604 but was returned to the city Vimmerby rights. Shortly after, the Danes returned back in 1610 and devastated the city once again. Later, in 1683 and 1821, raged again conflagrations in the city, and two-thirds of Vimmerby burned down.

In the amusement park Astrid Lindgren ( " Astrid Lindgren's World ") is a miniature version of Vimmerby and the scenes of Lindgren to see stories, including Matt's castle from " Ronja the Robber's Daughter ", the Katthulthof from " Emil of Maple Hills " Noisy Village and the Villa Sundries from "Pippi Longstocking". Near the town is the giant boulder and Wackelstein Runkesten. Also located near the Rumskullaeken, the thickest oak in Europe.
