Vincent Crane

Vincent Crane ( * May 21, 1943, † February 14, 1989; actually Vincent Cheesman ) was a British rock musician ( piano, keyboards).

Biography

Only at the age of 15 years Vincent Cheesman began playing the piano, but managed in 1961 to Trinity College of Music in London and completed three years later with two diplomas from ( LTCL and GTCL ). Although he had learned a lot in a short time, he was always aware that he could never keep up in terms of playing technique with those pianists who had already begun in early childhood taking piano lessons. But he knew he had a talent for writing songs and began to focus on. During his studies he played in several local jazz bands such as The Word Engine ( with Paul A. Green, Red Reece, Phil Seamen, Pete Brown, John Surman and Bob Downes ). In 1963 he founded his own band with the name Vincent Cheesman Trio, which debuted in 1964 at the Marquee Club. There have been many changes in the cast and he did not feel that he could achieve anything. Without concrete goal, he went to Paris and bought there for little money an organ. This inspired him to create a very oriented on Blues Jazz Band. But at that time wanted the audience rather soul and so Cheesman himself described the project later as " complete disaster ". At the same time he changed his name from Cheesman to Crane.

1966 Crane Arthur Brown joined to call The Crazy World of Arthur Brown to life. In 1967 she had appeared in all the hottest clubs, in 1968 she went on tour in America. In 1969, Vincent Crane and Carl Palmer, the band Atomic Rooster. They performed at London's Lyceum with Deep Purple on as the opening act. In 1970 Palmer the band to join Emerson, Lake & Palmer. In 1972, Atomic Rooster their first American tour, where they played at the Fillmore East, among others. In 1980, there was a revival of Atomic Rooster. New recordings were released, and the band went on tour again. 1984 sparked Crane Atomic Rooster on for the second time. He participated in the project Kathmandu, along with Peter Green, Ray Dorset and Jeff Whittaker. 1985 Crane played by Dexy 's Midnight Runners and went with them in the UK and France on tour. In 1987, the Midnight Runners disbanded, and Crane tried a new beginning with Atomic Rooster. However, he fell ill, and the planned tour of Germany had to be canceled.

Vincent Crane died on Valentine's Day 1989 from an overdose of painkillers.
